Toyota unveils interactive HiLux accessories experience

Toyota has expanded the way buyers can personalise the latest HiLux by introducing a new digital platform that showcases its growing range of genuine accessories through an interactive online experience and an augmented reality mobile application. The development reflects the increasing complexity of vehicle specification for the popular ute, which already offers extensive choice across body styles, drivelines, trim levels, colour finishes, and transmission options for the 2026 model year.

With four body configurations, two drivetrain layouts, five equipment grades, as many as seven exterior colours, and the option of either a manual or automatic gearbox, the HiLux can already be tailored in dozens of different combinations before accessories are considered. The newly launched configurator builds on this flexibility by allowing customers to visualise how factory-approved add-ons will look when fitted to their chosen vehicle.

Integrated directly into Toyota’s official website, the configurator provides a detailed, interactive view of a wide selection of accessories. These include multiple bullbar designs, trays, canopies, and other functional enhancements designed to suit work, leisure, or urban use. By selecting individual items, users can see how each component affects the vehicle’s appearance and perceived purpose, offering a clearer idea of how the finished ute may look in real-world conditions.

The platform’s accessory catalogue is extensive. Buyers can choose from five different bullbars, along with various protective elements, storage solutions, roof racks, and towing equipment. This breadth is intended to cater to a broad range of owners, from those operating in rural or trade-focused environments to drivers seeking a more lifestyle-oriented setup. To simplify the decision-making process, Toyota has also introduced four preset accessory packs that group together commonly selected items.

One of these bundles, known as the Adventure Pack, combines a premium steel bullbar with side rails, side steps, a snorkel, an LED light bar, and front recovery hooks, targeting customers who regularly venture off-road. The Rural Pack takes a more utilitarian approach, pairing a towing kit and seven-pin wiring harness with a commercial-grade bullbar and LED light bar, reflecting the needs of agricultural and heavy-duty users.

For those focused on everyday protection, the Protection Pack brings together a bonnet protector, headlamp covers, and weather shields. At the same time, the Urban Pack blends a towing kit and seven-pin trailer wiring harness with an LED light bar and a front nudge bar, aiming to balance practicality with city-friendly styling. Customers are not restricted to these predefined combinations, as the packs can be further customised with individual accessories to match specific requirements better.

In addition to the web-based configurator, Toyota has introduced a mobile app that uses augmented reality to enhance the buying experience. Through 3D graphics, users can project a virtual version of their customised HiLux into their own driveway or surrounding environment, providing a more immersive sense of scale and design before committing to a purchase.

The digital launch timing follows the arrival of the updated HiLux in December 2025. Across both the current and previous generations, Toyota’s light commercial ute achieved sales of 51,297 units during the year, securing its position as Australia’s third best-selling vehicle overall in 2025. This strong performance underlines the importance of continued innovation in how the model is marketed and personalised.

Toyota has also highlighted the practical considerations that come with adding accessories. Many components, particularly heavy-duty items such as bullbars, can add significant weight to the vehicle, with some exceeding 60 kilograms. As a result, owners are advised to visit a public weighbridge after fitting accessories to determine the vehicle’s actual running mass, an essential step for accurate towing and load calculations.
